Supporting the voice

of Autistic people

Speakup for Autism

The group was started in 2012 to give a voice to autistic people. The group has a committee of 8 people who meet regularly to discuss and plan work which includes:

  • Work with Universities, our experts work in co-production with researches from these universities to develop better services for autistic people.

  • They also have strong links with The National Autistic Society (NAS) and train other organisations, health care professionals and autistic people in how to communicate in a meaningful way with autistic people.

  • Self Advocacy projects which look at working and training professionals in communication skills and enabling them to support autistic people better.

  • Link with Healthcare professionals to plan and deliver projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of autistic people.

The group operates from a base within Speakup Self Advocacy in Rotherham and is supported by the Charity to meet its goals.
