They were very unhappy about where they were living; strangers from the Health Authority & Social Services were coming to their home without
asking. They got so fed up that they decided not to let anyone else into their home, they decided that people needed to listen to them.
They went down to London to meet "People First" at the Kings Fund, they
talked about how to start Self Advocacy. After this they came back to Rotherham, and with the help of some advisers they started their first meeting in February 1988.
Over 60 people with learning disabilities
came to this meeting and talked about how they should set up an advocacy group and get listened to.
