The Anti Bullying Campaign
Through the continuing work by the Speakup "Bully off" Campaign (including the Bully Off! Conference organised by Speakup - attended by 200 people in March 2000 and the Bully Off! Video launched there) we thought that more needed to be done to raise awareness of people with learning disabilities, and their right to be treated equally in society. A Mencap
report found 9 out of 10 people with learning disabilities had been bullied on a regular basis. Speakup members from Eastwood Day Centre together with advisors are currently working on an anti bullying charter for the borough
of Rotherham.
The Anti Bullying Campaign started last year when Speakup Self Advocacy, Social Services and Mencap joined forces to help publicise Bullying amongst people with a learning disability.
