Self Advocates at Speakup Self Advocacy and Speakup for Autism have co-produced a 4 Unit elearning programme for the staff of Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (Rotherham Hospital)
The objective of the programme is to inform staff how to communicate and work effectively with people who have Learning Disabilities and/or Autism.
The programme has been evaluated by members of the Speakup Committee, Health and Social Care Professionals and Students and a member of the Medical Staff at Rotherham Hospital.
This inspired project will enable people to have better life chances because they will be better supported and communicated with by healthcare professionals. Our E-Learning training is designed for health care professionals and others interested in improving the lives of people with learning disabilities. It will increase the abilities of healthcare workers to understand how to improve the quality of life; to support a good person-centered life of someone with a learning disability.
The training has been developed by experts with learning disabilities and/or autism who have ‘lived experience’, together with an experienced tutor, making it real, more powerful and effective than standard staff development.
